This Week at Bella Vino – Ambra from F & F Wine Imports

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all ready for whatever crazy weather we’re enjoying. Spring is right around the corner!! In my last few emails I’ve mentioned the move but have neglected to tell you the address in Windham. Bella Vino’s new home will be 4 Cobbetts Pond Road in Windham.

This week we have Ambra from F & F Wine Imports who will be pouring 4 great wines all from California. As usual we really look forward to our Thursday night wine tastings – and seeing Ambra of course!

Thursday’s Wine Tasting – Ambra

2008 Norton Ridge – 100% Chardonnay - Napa Valley, California -  A lightly oaked Chardonnay with plenty of bright citrus flavors and round honey notes. This definitely won’t weigh you down during a long meal or a party; it is made to be refreshing and drinkable, with crisp acidity and a long finish. ($21.99)

2007 Hobo Vineyards – 100% Zinfandel – Dry Creek Valley, California – 90 Pts WEStrikes a nice balance of ripe berry and chocolate flavors, firmed with softly smooth tannins, and a deep earthy-spiciness suggesting sweet tobacco, anise, and sage. Turns lush and intricate toward the finish. ($22.99)

2007 Trace Wines – 100% Cabernet Sauvignon - Tracy Hills, California  Fragrances of plum, blackberry and dark chocolate will envelope your senses as bold and silky flavors trace across your palate. Enjoy with hearty dishes, roasted meals or your favorite hard cheeses. ($14.99)

2007 Trace Wines – 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Shiraz - Tracy Hills, California  Fragrances of blueberries, cedar and cocoa will envelop your senses as robust and spicy flavors trace across your palate. Enjoy with BBQ, pasta with meatballs or your favorite pizza. ($14.99)

Our wine tasting on Thursday is from 4:30 to 7:00.

Until then – Cheers!

This Week at Bella Vino – Jackie from Wineberries

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a very happy and fun filled Valentines day.

As I mentioned last week, this month is really flying bye. It will soon be time to move out of our wonderful Londonderry wine cellar and into our equally wonderful new space in Windham. It is both very sad and exciting at the same time. It looks like we will have 3 more wine tastings in Londonderry. Our last day in Londonderry is scheduled for Saturday, March 6. We will be opening in Windham on or around March 17 – St. Patty’s day!! We can certainly squeeze in a wine tasting in Londonderry on Thursday March 11. We will have limited wines in the shop since we will be in transition but it could be fun. Let me know what you would like to do??

But this week Jackie from Wineberries will be pouring 4 favorites (my favorites that is!!)

Thursday’s Wine Tasting – Jackie

2008 Crios de Susana Balbo – 100% Torrontes - Mendoza, Argentina - 90 Pts WA, 90 Pts W&S - Enticing aromas that are strikingly similar to Viognier, with hints of peach pit, white pear, flowers and orange citrus fruit. On the palate, it has a beautiful structure and acidity along with enticing fruit flavors and plenty of body for a wine that shows such delicate aromas and flavors. Fruity, floral and yet still quite dry, this wine has to be tasted to be believed. ($17.99)

“New Wine” 2002 Beaucanon Estate Merlot- 76% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley, California - Aromas of cherry liqueur, blackberry, licorice, black tea and brambly spice, touched with generous toasty oak burst. The palate adds layers of dark berries, apple and cherry. The terroir of the Oakville Vineyard shines through with tastes of dust and dark loam. Tannins are big and velvety while the Cabernet Franc provides a bit of lively acidity that keeps the amazing fruit flavors dancing on your tongue for a long, smooth finish. A big wine without any rough edges. Great to drink on its own but pairs beautifully with grilled sausages, pork chops with cherries and roasted vegetables. ($22.99)

2003 Beaucanon Estate Trifecta - Bordeaux Blend - Napa Valley, California  A swirl of this deep garnet wine releases elegant aromas of spicy berries, leather and sweet alcohol. The palate is bright with youthful acidity, highlighting flavors of blackberry, black cherry, cocoa with a generous amount of toasted coconut contributed by the American and French oak. Tannins are grippy and the finish is amazing. Enjoy it with grilled steaks, spice rubbed chicken and rosemary chicken. ($31.99)

2004 Beaucanon Estate Cabernet Franc - 100% Cabernet Franc - Napa Valley, California - The aromas are dark and rich; black and blueberry fruit, cocoa, smoky tea and toasty oak. A little time in a decanter or in your glass and you’ll see more delicate notes of red cherry, lavender and mineral earth emerge to add depth and interest. On the palate the fruit takes over. Red and black cherries and stone fruit dominating with savory oak and the darker elements of earth and cocoa flavors. Tannins are gripping but smooth. Enjoy it with pork and game, long-simmered braises and grilled vegetable dishes. It’s also a perfect red wine for cheeses, especially with hard Italian and Spanish types. ($23.99)

Our wine tasting on Thursday is from 4:30 to 7:00.

Until then – Cheers!
